1/32 NFL Offseason Analysis: For Better or Worse, the NFC West Seattle Seahawks
Let’s start with the NFL West where the Seattle Seahawks made some noise this offseason. The Seattle Seahawks had a top 5 performance this offseason with some of their moves both in Free Agency and in the draft. They needed to upgrade on the defensive side and find a 3rd wr to play in the slot. They did both of those and they got considerably better.
Plus, they should get a healthy Jamal Adams back at Safety. This team is primed to compete with SF for the NFC West. With Adams back, they can play their nickel package as well as be in their 3-4 so they have some great flexibility .
Key Additions:
On defense they picked up 4 starters in free agency and 1 in the draft with Devon Witherspoon. That is a tremendous upgrade to a defense that needed to improve. Derick Hall may start too so this defense is ready to roll.
Defense: Dremont Jones- DE Arguably the best DE in Free agency, Will help both in the run and pass game. Jarran Reed- DL, versatile DT returns to Seattle Jordan Love-Safety a very credible starter that gives them a needed boost at safety Bobby Wagner- ILB, Still a top 5 LB in the game Devin Bush-LB He tailed off last year but may be able to regain some form and get back to his days when he was a productive LB. Derick Hall-OLB, Auburn, He played De in a 4-2 scheme at Auburn but will be an OLB in the NFL and possibly start in their 3-4 base defense. He may compete for the starting job with Darrell Taylor. Offense: Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the steal of the draft. He had better numbers than Garrett Wilson 2 years ago. Lockett, Metcalf and Njigba is the best wr corps in the division. Evan Brown-Guard/Center, Evan gives them some depth and he may compete for the guard or center position. Charbonnet- RB, They selected Charbonnet in the 3rd round and he will give them some nice depth in the backfield at RB. He should win the #2 job behind Walker.
Key Losses:
Most of the key losses were on defense. They didn’t lose much on offense and got better at WR and RB.
They lost a few players but they upgraded at 5 positions in the process. They swapped veterans Al Woods and Q Jefferson and picked up D Jones and Jarran Reed. They swapped Cody Barton for Bobby Wagner.
Al Woods-DT Rotational DT signed with the Jets Q Jefferson-DE Signed with the Jets and will be in their rotation Cody Barton- LB Signed with the Commanders.
All in all the Seahawks had a fantastic offseason and Pete Carroll should be excited about his team.
