2022 Ryan Walters Illinois 3rd down Variations- Going from man to zone coverage vs motion and Empty

One of the concepts I analyzed was Illinois 3rd down cover 2 hole coverage. They play a ton of cover 1, cover 0 and then get into some cover 2 hole principles. Lets look at the cover 2 hole concept they play after showing cover 1. They do this from their 3-2 3rd down package.

Pre-Snap

The pre-snap picture is man free. This is evident both before and after they motion. They even do that when they go in motion as the DB will travel with the man in motion.

They run with motion(Usually teams will play man when that happens.

Again right before the snap it looks like cover 1.

But on the snap they go cover 2.
