3rd Down Defense: Dennis Allen Cover 6 Match Concept!
For years, Dennis Allen has done a tremendous job as a defensive coordinator in the NFL. Things just didn’t work out as a head coach but he will be a dc again soon!
Dennis Allen will play some cover 6 match vs 3x1. It is a designed 5 man pressure with 2 coming off the edge, with your LB matching the concept inside.
It is a zone defense where you are matching the #2 and #3 wr as follows.
Near LB will match the deeper crosser. The far LB will match the shallow crosser underneath. The CB has deep 1/4 with the safety that side playing 1/4.
On the back end it’s still quarter, quarter half! It is an excellent way to bring 2 off the edge to the field, have leverage on the outside with the CB and match inside and vertical routes.
The pressure is 2 off the edge to the trips side.
This is a good concept vs teams that like to run basic dig combinations, shallow, dagger , y crosss and some other 3x1 in breaking routes.
You can see the 2 ILB wall #2 and #3
