4-2 Base and 3-2 Dime Package-Tying it All Together
This article looks at tying in your 4-2 base and 3-2 dime package.
This looks at how to do it, certain stunts and pressures you can run with it.
At Nassau we had some success and some great 3rd down #’s. The stats below are from the 2022 season. We spent 2 days a week on 3rd down, and it was a point of emphasis during the week. We worked it in situations, both middle of the field, red zone and tite red zone. We would play our 4-2 package or our 3-2 depending on what we expected on 3rd down. Both were very successful for us.
Below is our base fronts and looks and some thoughts based on personnel groupings.
When we got into our dime, it was as follows:
“Here’s our rush and coverage concepts”
Why both?
Base alignment and how we lined up.
Odd vs 2-2
Odd vs. 3x1
Here’s how it looks presnap-You seee our joker cheating to #3 strong. Teams don’t know whether he is in coverage or dropping off his alignment.
The options are limitless regardless of which front you are in. You can play any coverage you want and it changes for one player-the joker.
Some coverage examples
2 read from the 4-2-5 look.
In odd we will play it with the hole defender. 2 read for everyone else.
Here’s a zone pressure from the 4-2-5 followed by a similar concept with the same coverage below it in the odd look.
Bring the sam and the joker but still play 3 strong
Another example is playing 2 man. We can do this by sending a 3 man pressure, or one LB with a rat defender, or one LB and the other blitz engaging if the RB blocks.
2 man lurk below from the Nickel look. Similar scheme but we add the lurk term in our base call and the safety dives opposite the strength.
Below is cover 2 hole concepts where we play the coverage from our odd looks. We would sometimes show pressure with the coverage.
These are some examples and illustrations and I hope you find some of these concepts useful. The options are limitless and you can tie everything together. Hope you can add one or two to your playbook.
