49ers Run Game- Attacking the Bear and odd front in the run game with motion
The 49ers are always one of the top teams when it comes to rushing the football. They are an outstanding team and can really do a great job scheming things up.
They will often use motion to get the angles they want in the run game. They primarily use 2 types of motion.
They use the h back in motion in what people call escort motion.
The other way is to come out in 3x1 and use jet motion.
Lets look at how they attack the bear and odd front with escort motion below:
12 personnel with the H back going in motion and the other one flexed on the left. They do a great job taking advantage of angles and blocking the play effectively.
#1 H back in motion leads through the C gap and blocks the CB. #2 the TE on that side cracks on the mike #3 LT blocks the DE #4 WR on the outside find blocks on the safety. #5 Condensed split by #2 gets the OLB to widen. Big component of their run game.
#1 H back in motion leads through the C gap and blocks the CB. #2 the H Back on that side. Again the flexed
The defense is in bear but having the flexed slot gets the OLB to widen which helps the play presnap.
2 back run game
Another aspect of attacking the bear or odd front is creating angles with their 2 back design. They often do this with the H back off set.
I will show you this play with different motions.
orbit motion
escort/h fast motion
Here they run inside zone with the slice back from the 2 back set. RB hits it down hill with an easy read on the backside. Simple slice scheme vs the Dolphins.
