Arizona Cardinals: Drew Petzing Putting Defenses in Conflict with 13 Personnel
Drew Petzing is an outstanding talent and great football coach. He became the Offensive Coordinator of the Cardinals in 2023 and the offense has been outstanding. They are top 10 in rushing categories, averaging 5.2 yards per rush and 5th with 149 yards per game. They are also highly efficient in the passing game with a 69% completion rate.
One of the best parts about Drew Petzing is they love to put defenses in conflict using 13P and going under center. These 2 aspects have really had a great effect on their run game. This creates more gaps in the run game and running lanes. They compliment this when they throw the ball as they force teams to use big personnel and then take advantage in the passing game.
Let’s look at some film.
13P Run game
13P When they go 13P they will primarily run Gap Schemes. I haven’t seen any zone. They also run some boot off it.
The #1 play they run is counter. Here is the scheme.
