Chiefs Passing Game: Stack, Bunch and Rub Routes vs Man Coverage.
The Chiefs ran these routes against the Texans in their tough 27-19 win this year. These routes were a major reason they were able to pull off the victory against a tough Texans team.
They do 2 things better than anyone else:
Cause confusion in the defensive backfield with their rub designs.
They are exceptional at giving themselves up to get their teammate open. Their rub concepts are perfectly run.
Let’s look at some below:
#1 Bunch formation
The #3 WR uses the pick route by #2 to get open. The DB can’t get thru the trarffic.
#2 Short Motion in 3 x1
They run short inside motion to 3 by 1 bunch. This route is a clear man beater as Mahomes will be reading the crossing route to the shallow. Easy read and catch and throw. The inside shallow is open off the 2 picks and natural rubs created off the motion.
