Coastal Carolina(Liberty) dive option run game
Coastal Carolina runs true triple option, some double option and has some interesting ways in which they block the triple option. They also run it like midline where they dive the pistol rb at the center and pitch with the off set back. These are 2 ways in which they run it.
The 2nd way they run it with the offset back as the dive back and the other running back as the pitch man. In the example below the arc the tackle and he blocks the alley defender, The slot takes the safety and the #1 wr blocks the cb. The qb makes a good read and 20 yard gain.
dive key and pitch key and they have numbers on the perimeter, they arc the tackle.
tackle gets on the perimeter , as you see the dive key on line and 41 as the pitch key.
they pitch it and get 2x2 on the perimeter.
nice play. film below:
Same play to the other side, qb makes a quick pitch as he really doesn't seem to be reading the olb for pitch. He pitches quickly and if he pushes to the olb a little more they may get a little more on it.
You see the option develop again.
good angles as they get the blocking on the perimeter. Another positive gain.
Vs Louisiana
In the next variation, they dive the back in the pistol. They run it more like midline with the half backs aiming point. They change the unpack and make him the pitch man. Nice change up and the safety makes a nice play after a 7 yard gain.
they block down and pitch off the safety.
You can see the aiming path as more midline, tackle handles the blitzing lb and they pitch off the de.
good design and execution
Here's another of the midline variety. They read the de for dive and they pitch off the ss. They put their rb in a one on one situation.
nice job vs the 2 deep.
#2 blocks the safety based on the call and they pitch off the olb.
Here is one last clip of the Dive option and the play action off it.
