Georgia Defense Pressures and Run Stunts from their 4-2-5
Georgia defense is multiple in their scheme. They play a 4-2-5 and also have the ability to move into a tight front which they do often. They will often move pre snap from a 4-2-5 to a 3-4 tight front and vice versa, trying to cause confusion. They are well coached by defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann with Kirby Smart having a major say in some of the things they do schematically.
Georgia has continued to set a high standard in college football for defense. In the five games versus teams who would eventually make the College Football Playoff field in 2024, the Bulldog defense held them to 15.4 ppg and 278.6 ypg- and all but one of those contests was played away from Georgia’s Sanford Stadium. It was a very impressive unit.
Well this article takes a look at some of their 4-2-5 inside plug pressures as well as some 4-2 stunts. What I call a plug pressure is a movement involving 1 LB inside that allows the other LB to play over the top. The other LB not on the blitz is a read player who can make different plays in the run game.
vs 12 P
LB plug with a DE loop. They send the will LB to the split end side away from the RB.. It looks like he is blitzing the offside A gap. The DE on the bottom is looping to the other A. The LB not on the blitz reads it. This after watching it on 3 clips seems to be a pressure of the RB.
Blitz away from the back with the DE to the side of the back as the looper.
The Sam is the QB player and sets the edge. It’s a zone defense if pass.
The DE is working to the offside as the LB plugs the hole inside.
The DE works over the top and makes the tackle.

Inside pressure vs Jet Motion
Vs Kentucky the blitzed behind the jet motion on one occasion and to it on the other. It could of just been the call and how it played out.
Georgia brings the LB away from the motion.
The other LB reads it. He reacts to the RB. He scrapes over the top.
In the event of a pass the DE will drop and they play split field, 4 to the field and 2 to the boundary.
In the next example they bring the Mike as Kentucky runs jet the other way. They bring the field safety down outside #3 and the FS is playing at 10 yards and running the alley.
The Mike blitzes off A and the will LB has the ability to read and play over the top or react to run and lag fit it his side. He reads the jet and runs.
LB sees the jet action and flows that way.
