Jets Offense: Quick take vs the Carolina Panthers
Jets Take aways on Offense vs the Carolina Panthers
QB
The back up qb situation and the decision on who will be #2 is a tough one.
Wilson started off really well, then struggled a little in the middle part of the first half, before getting back into a nice rhythm on his final drive. At times, he appeared to be as decisive and confident as he’s ever been with the Jets. He is showing progress with his decision making and pocket awareness. He missed a few balls early but the backup situation looks bright with either him or Boyle. Boyle was 9 of 10 on the day with one bad throw that led to an interception. BothWilson and Boyle give them quality depth.
RB
Michael Carter was back in action and had a nice performance. He ran for 53 yards on six touches, but it was once again rookie Israel Abanikanda had the run of the night and did some good things. His 26-yard run down to the goal line set up the first touchdown. Abanikanda ended up with 87 yards from scrimmage and really played well for the jets. Both are quality backups until Hall come back.
Offensive Line
McGovern doesn’t seem too content on giving up his job as he graded out the highest of all the offensive lineman at Center. I gave him an A on the day.
Tomlinson was next with a grade of B with Schweitzer playing particularly well and grading out at B+. Schweitzer can definitely step in and give you quality reps at Guard, and is very good in protection. They may want to try him at right tackle as he is pretty good in pass protection. Not ideal but worth looking at.
Mitchell and Turner gave effort but I thought they were on the C scale. Thought Mitchell did a few good things but had a few missed blocks in the run game. Mitchell was better in protection this week.
Turner played ok and held up in protection but isn’t the force you need him to be in the run game. He looks a little slow in his lateral movement I had him as a C.
He needs to do a better job here for example cutting off the backside.
I thought Becton was good in the run game but struggled at times in protection. He got a B- on the day. Still not where needs to be. Got his feet caught up underneath him on a few plays. Should get some run with the first team next week as he continues to get back to his old form.
Neither TE was impressive in the run game. Uzomah and Conklin both got a C especially in the run game department. Ruckert played well, had a few nice catches and was better in the run game. I had him as a B on the day.
Wide Receiver
Garrett Wilson and Cobb didn’t play, Davis , Hardman and Lazard didn’t do much but weren’t given too much time to display their talents. The wr room isn’t the problem and that group will be a strength for the year. Malik Taylor continues to impress and is trying to win the #5 wr spot.
Overall, my biggest concern is still at offensive tackle. The Jets may want to give Schweitzer some snaps at tackle. I think Becton and Turner is up for grabs at Left tackle right now but Becton may win in. What happens when Duane Brown comes back into the fold?
