Kellen Moore Cowboys and Chargers Play Action Concepts

Kellen Moore is now the OC in Philadelphia and should bring an exciting offense to the Eagles. He will incorporate many schemes that will play to the strengths of his QB Jalen Hurts while taking advantage of the talents of Barkley, Devonte Smith and AJ Brown. You also have Dallas Goedert and a tremendous offensive line.

This article takes a look at some of his play action concepts that he ran with Dallas and LA. You will see some plays from 12 personnel, 13 personnel and 11 personnel. He can use any of these personnel groupings, and run these concepts under center or in the gun.

12P Play Action Post Dig Concept

2nd and 5 vs the Chiefs are in man

They run wide zone play action and a nice crossing route with the #2 WR.

Play Action Y Cross with 2 thru routes

The next concept is off my favorite formation 3x1 bunch.

The #1 WR goes in jet motion and runs a go route. #2 runs a post and the backside wr runs a crossing route. They hit allen on the crossing route.

Running play action off jet motion is very effective! It stresses the alley defender. The defense is in cover 4.

The alley defender is frozen by the RB which opens up the crossing route! You see the LB chase the RB which opens the nice crossing route. Being in cover 4, the DB’s run with the 2 go vertical routes.

You see the quarters as the 2 db’s go with the go routes and it opens up the crossing route.

11P Play Action Sail Route

The next concept is the sail route off play action. They get CeeDee Lamb on the post route. They motion him to stack and then he runs the post with Gallup on the deep out.

Defensively they try to go cover 3

The safety is late getting over and Prescott throws a great ball. Nice play and execution.

13p Play Action TE wheel

They run play action and catch the Giants in a cover 3 fire zone. The nice thing about going 13 P is you will often get some type of cover 3. The Giants give them that with their fire zone.

Defensively it’s a cover 3 fire zone with the mike blitzing and the safety replacing the mike.

The LB bites on play action as you see the Giants rolling to the cover 3 scheme with the safety as the middle hook player.

The wheel route is wide open.
