NFL Passing Game: Boot Insert and Jet Motion Boot Concepts

This article looks at different motions and route concepts to use as part of your boot package. Boot off the wide zone, inside zone ,and your outside run game is an important concept to any offense. We will look at a few jet motion concepts.

We will look at the following:

  1. Insert Motion

  2. Jet motion to the side of the Boot

  3. Jet motion away from the Boot

  4. Richochet/Return Motion

#1 Insert Motion

Inset motion is becoming more popular as I have seen it used by the Lions, Texans and Rams. It causes issues as it can confuse the CB with his 3 match, cover 4 responsibilities.

Below the Lions run it vs the 49ers and hit the TE in the flat. The CB carries the vertical and no one is in the flat for the nice 10 yard gain.

The insert causes confusion and 2 players end up hanging on that route which opens up the TE to the flat.

The Texans ran this vs The Browns in the wildcard game for a 75 yard touchdown after a few missed tackles.

The CB takes the Deep TE and no one takes the TE to the flat as they look like they are in man. He blocks and then releases which causes an issue.

Seahawks insert Concept

They insert off motion away from the boot side. Nice scheme and boot play.
