Passing Game: Effective use of Boot Concepts from 11 Personnel
This article will look at how some teams run their bootleg passing game out of 11 personnel. It looks at base sets, unbalanced and boot off of jet motion. You also have some boot throwbacks that I threw in the analysis.
1. Boot away from jet motion
2. Boot with a pulling guard(more 1/2 roll) , wide zone Concepts include sail, smash and others to the 2 wr side 2x2
3. Boot off of Toss action away from the strength
4. Boot throwback and TE sneak/delav routes
5. Boot with the wheel concept on the front side.
Condensed formation Boot
11 Personnel to the passing strength
The Browns with Joe Flacco run boot and move the pocket with the pulling guard. They run a nice split field beater. This is an excellent route concept as it allows the wr to work the middle of the field which is open.
The other thing I like about it is they pull the guard which helps with protection. It’s a solid 6 man protection scheme with the TE staying in.
#1 grabs the safety to the top of the screen and they hit #2 on the post route.
11 personnel away from the passing strength
They run the similar run action with the guard pulling. They hit the crossing route away from the passing strength.
The next play is the same pattern but it’s off wide zone action. They don’t pull anyone but get great flow from the LB. They hit the crosser across the field.
Orbit Motion Boot away from the Strength
The orbit motion pulls the outside LB
The great toss fake sells the LB, the LB flow with the toss zone action.
The TE opens up as the middle of the field is vacated.

Jet Motion Away from the Passing Strength
Seahawks are in a condensed formation. Fake Jet and toss in the same direction.
They run the TE on a very shallow cross with a deeper cross by #1. Both crossing routes are open in the other direction.
