Some Top Coverage Concepts and Run Defenses from the Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are one of the top defenses in the NFL. They are the reason the Broncos are 2-2, even with very limited QB play. They are towards the bottom in points scored and passing yards. But, the defense is another story. They have been dominant allowing 13.8 points a game and doing it with various schemes. Vance Joseph and Jim Leonhard have that defense dialed in.
These stats tell the story. 13.8 points allowed, only 1 TD a game, 4.8 yards per play. A ridiculous 256 yards per game.
In the last 3 games, they gave up 13 to the Steelers, 7 to the Bucs and 9 to the Jets.
They are creative with their schemes and have run some very good pressures in passing situation. They will play a ton of 3-4 on early downs and then get into their nickel package on 3rd down or vs 11 Personnel.
They are very skilled at both bringing pressure on run downs as well as passing and have a great game plan week in and week out on where to attack.
Pass Defense Schemes
Here’s another example in which they stump the Bucs with a inside 4 man sim pressure. They bring the Mike and drop both DE into coverage.
Vs the Bucs
A nice cover 2 hole pressure from a disguise look. They bring the LB over #2 weak to the middle to play the middle hole. Totally confuses Mayfield and he has to throw the ball away.
In the next clip, they run with motion which to most QB is a man indicator, but they jump to zone and play cover 2.
The Jets run crossing routes and the Broncos are sitting their waiting for them.
