The 49ers Defense: Slowing down Tysom Hill in the run game
The Saints used Tysom Hill in the run game throughout last year. He was very effective and had great success in numerous games. They were 6-0 in games in which he carried the ball 7 times or more! They utilized his strength as a runner and he was an integral part of their offense.
One game he was shut down was the 49ers game. They had a very solid game plan when he was quarter back and it involved stunting. The DE would bend in side and force the give and try to get the ball outside to the LB, Safety and CB. The great technique forces the ball outside. They held him to 6 carries for 13 yards and he was a nonreactor.
1st, they played defense with their true 4-3 base personnel. 3 true linebackers and often played cover 4. This allowed the safeties to play fast and be factors in the run game. The LB were disciplined and stayed home to play the qb as they knew the DE would do their jobs.
Example #1, qb power with a find block.

The CB is the extra defender as they spill it to him.

Great job agains getting the LB outside and the safety down with the hard spill technique.
great pursuit to the football and execution of the scheme.
