The Eagles Short Yardage Rub Routes in Their Passing Attack

The Eagles are very efficient on 3rd down and have run various pick plays on short yardage. Some have a built in run pass option. Coach Siriani , Brian Johnson and before him Shane Steichen have been running them for years and they are highly effective, especially against man coverage.

This article will look at some of the concepts they use on 3rd and less than 4 yards and some of the route concepts. As you will see they also run these routes off run pass options which puts more stress on the defense.

3rd and 2

Bring the TE in motion and bring him back. This tells him it’s man to man coverage. They run a rub route for #2 off their inside zone run game. Nice design for the easy first down.

The first clip shows the motion and pick vs the Jets, They run the pick route with #2 and they hit #1 on the wheel.

The 2nd 3 pictures shows one of their RPO’s. They hit the #2 wr on the out cut with the TE to the flat. Nice design and execution by the Eagles.
