The many hats of Kyle Juszczyk-How the 49ers utilize his skillset in their offense
The 49ers use Kyle Juszczyk in a plethora of ways. He is a very versatile player who can block with the best of them, run the ball and even get the ball in the passing game. He is a very important part of the offense often opening holes up for Christian McCaffrey and other running backs.
His versatility allows them to run 21 personnel type formations as well as 12 personnel formations with him on the ball. Because of Kittles skill set, they can open things up and flex both guys out, which makes them very difficult to defend. They can put him in the backfield and have him lead on various run plays. Again, with Kittle and him out there they can be very versatile and get into different sets and formations and cause real issues in the run game.
As a fullback
They will use him in various run schemes as a fullback, most notably lead toss.
Lead Toss
In the following situation, the 49ers put Deebo Samuel at HB and put Kyle at FB. They run lead toss with zone principles and Kyle playing off the TE block.
Lead Toss #2
This time they toss crack on it and lead him on the perimeter. They are in a condensed set and crack with #1 and #2 to the split end side. They motion across to create angles, and get the Tackle Trent Williams out on the perimeter.
As an H back
H TRAP
H Trap In the situation below they use the H Back to trap the DE. He makes a good block and if the OLB doesn’t fall back inside, it would be an even bigger play.
Jet Counter
They run jet with the wr and then run a counter scheme off of it. They attack the bear front with this scheme. They use the h back(Kyle) to get up on the LB and as a lead blocker in the counter game.
They come out in 3x1 and create great angles with their formation.
19 Hammer Left
They put Kyle as the #1 wr then motion him and lead him on their infamous hammer play. They lead him through the hole often chipping on a DE before leading to a LB.
They are in a spread formation with 12 personnel
They will often lead him thru the hole as a battering ram. Again with Kittle and him they can align them different ways.
Another variation of the hammer play, They jut lead both H backs through this time. They always seem to have an answer for those bear fronts and love to go 3x1 and motion a H back and run some type of hammer or counter scheme at it.
Wide Zone
The last play they are in 12 personnel, with Kyle as the h back to the 3 wr side. They run wide zone away from him and he cuts off the backside with a great block. 12 personnel 3x1 formation and run wide zone away from the strength with him on the backside.
Kyle Juszczyk is a very good football player and essential part of the 49ers offense as both a fullback and h back. He does so many of the intangibles that are important to the 49ers success. I hope you enjoyed this article.
