The Rams Tight Zone Run Game

Tight zone is a good run play to have in your playbook. It can be run different ways depending on who you ask. It is similar to duo except you are running it with a playside A gap entry point with an H block slice. This play is often run from the gun rather than under center.

The play is effective for various reasons and is excellent play you will often see 2nd and long. Tight zone is a good downhill run that will allow you to get a double team on an interior 3 technique or defensive tackle. It hits hard and downhill which is why it is utilized on early downs. It is a good scheme play for OL that may not be effective in wide zone.

Depending on the scheme and team, the play will hit in the A gap. The Rams run it as a play side A game aiming point while others will hit the far A.

The beauty is you will get at least one double team and at times two double teams depending on the front as you incorporate your zone scheme.

Here are some of the schemes as they occur. Zone combinations vary but the premise is the H back will block the EMOL as he slices across. The frontside Guard and Tackle combo to the playside LB and the center and RG work to the offside LB.

Again this time they run it at the 2i. The OT steps but works right up to the Lb. The RG takes the 2i and the center and LG work to the offside LB.

The right guard controls the A gap and the RT gets to the LB.
