Top Route Concepts of The Kevin O'Connell Minnesota Vikings Passing Attack
Kevin O’Connell is a great coach and had a great year in Minnesota. They 2ent 14-3 and QB Sam Darnold threw for 4300 yards 35 TD and 12 interceptions on the year. Let’s take a look at some top route concepts of the Minnesota Vikings as he had great success with the offense this year.
Double Dig
Cover 2 beater: Read the Curl defender vs zone
This is a nice concept as they run the double dig concept over the curl defender.
Looking at the images, the middle picture the mike takes the post and sits on it. which allows the QB to make the read on the curl defender. (photo 3)

Film
Wave or Deep Crosser Concept
The first route is a simple deep mesh or wave crossing concept. Some call it scissors where the 2 guys cross at 12-15. The #1 WR on the right clears the CB and safety out if he can. In this situation it’s man so the wR can work across the field without deep safety help. He wins the 1x1 and Darnold delivers a good ball.

Stop and Go
The next concept is a nice cover 3 beater as the WR runs a nice double move. The defense is in 3 weak and the WR just makes a great move and the CB bites on the fake.
The CB bites hard on the double move and the WR runs by him. Darnold makes an excellent throw and hits the WR in stride.

Mesh Dagger
The outside 2 WR are running the dagger concept with the Mesh with the TE and #1 on the backside.
Mesh Traffic
#1 runs the out cut. #2 and #3 pick for #1 WR coming the other way.
