Utah Defense Pressure Package, 4-2-5 Axe cover 2
The Utah defense has been very good over the years. Morgan Scalley has adjusted and run numerous games an coverages and made it very difficult on offenses.
One of their pressures in their 4-2-5 package is an inside blitz with the ILB and they play cover 2 with it. They do it bringing the LB A gap or crossing them in the A gaps. They like this concept vs 3x1 trips to the field. You can run it vs 2x2 as well.
The Center takes the first crosser on the stunt but the 2nd crosser comes clean. Nice design as the RB free releases.
Free rusher coming free below.
Here you see the coverage as the 3x1 coverage. The DE to the 3x1 side plays the hook and the DE to the boundary plays the curl.
Normal cover 2 with everyone else.
The LB below does a goo job walling #3 as the pressure gets home.
Film #1
Heres another clip vs 3x1 strong, This time the RB stays in but the LB gets good pressure and forces the QB out of the pocket.
The 2nd looper forces the QB out of the pocket and he’s forced to throw the ball away.
All in all, you can run it with a cross dog, double a pressures or even send the DT B gap. The bottom line is you are getting good inside pressure while only sending 4, so it is relatively safe pressure. You will also often get teams going 6 man protection if you bring inside stunts which will keep the back in and help your coverage with only 4 players in routes.
