The LA Rams Run Game: Tight Zone WR Insert Scheme
The Rams run a bunch of tight zone run plays. Tight zone is a good run play to have in your playbook. It can be run different ways depending on who you ask. It is similar to duo except you are running it with a play side A gap entry point with an H block slice. This play is often run from the gun rather than under center.
The play is effective for various reasons and is excellent play you will often see 1st down and 2nd and long. Tight zone is a good downhill run that will allow you to get a double team on an interior 3 technique or defensive tackle. It hits hard and downhill which is why it is utilized on early downs. It is a good scheme play for OL that may not be effective in wide zone.
I did a recent post on the tight zone(Link Here) and this part focuses on using the WR as an insert in the scheme. What I mean is you will often see the Rams run this scheme with a 9 technique to the TE side with a safety in the c Gap.
4-2 Front
Let’s look at the scheme vs a 4-2 scheme with a 9 technique. Again, that is when the Rams like to run this scheme. They are in 3x1 condensed to the offensive left. The TE blocks out and the WR Nacua loops inside to block the SS.
The LB shift with motion so it creates better angles for the OL. The looper ends up taking #23
With the shift the assignments change but the Rams OL stays on their course and effectively block the point of attack. The WR loops for the SS.

4-2 front ,This time they run it without motion. Similar scheme as above but just no motion. Another nice 6 yard gain on the play.
They get nice double teams and have their eyes on the 2nd level. They do a nice job and get 2 good blocks.
The Center and left guard come off afther the LB declare to their side.
